Our modern society has been educated to believe that the increase in human habitation on this planet is the result of the insatiable breeding habit of the human species. This is not true. This is neither true for animals, nor for humanity. Animal species are limited by the limits and conditions of their habitat. Humanity, however, has the ability
, through reason, to step beyond these limits. The sharp increase in the population density around the world that has been experienced since the beginning of the Golden Renaissance in the 15th century, and especially so during the last century, is the result of increases in the scientific and technological capacity of humanity. As cultural conditions improved, which allowed greater efforts to be devoted to the discovery of fundamental principles, the resulting technologies have made it possible to increase the productive capacity of all processes that are essential for human existence. By this process the potential population density increased with the result of that the size of humanity has increased. In real terms, the increase in the size of humanity has nothing to do with procreation habits, but reflects a nation's scientific, technological, and cultural self-development. It is also a fact of history that the same processes which have enabled the increase in population density have also increased the quality of human existence. This increased quality is reflected in advanced cultural pursuits and in a longer life expectancy of the population. In other words, the increase in the quality of life and the increase in the potential population density on the planet, go hand in hand as though they were one and the same phenomenon, which in a sense they are.
