The "Key of David"

Mary Baker Eddy said in her unique way: Pay close attention to what you find in the Glossary. This is important!

Except, what exactly is it, that one is to pay attention to? One must assume that the Biblical text, itself, points this out, that she had used twice in succession as a pointer.

The text is from Revelation: "These thing saith He that is holy, He that is true, He that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth; I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open book, and no man can shut it."

The open book that no one can shut, can only be a structure that one creates for oneself in consciousness. This structure, of course, must be built individually. Towards this end, as an aid, as it were, she has outlined a scientific development structure in her textbook, defined its architecture, and set up definitions for all the significant details. The rest was left up to humanity. She had hinted at the existence of her outlined work, which is extensively outlined throughout her textbook and her other works, but it appears she could go no further. The structure had to be discovered by humanity, and be built from the ground up with her outlined architecture and detailed definitions for it, as an aid. The nature of this structure was such that it could not simply be given to anyone, like a finished product that one might buy in a store. Science operates in a different manner. It rests on discoveries of fundamental principles and the application thereof. Such a process poses no final limit. No doctrine can describe it. By its nature, Science is an open door to infinity. For this reason, any structure of science, or any structure for the development of science, must carry the same fundamental characteristic. Can there ever be such thing as the final discovery, or the final understanding of Truth, or the final perception of reality. Many claims of finality in truth, understanding, and perception have been made through the ages, and have all been superseded. Now the problem becomes a critical one. How does one set up an infinite structure, a form that is open to infinity, that is not doctrine, but becomes a part of life and its dynamics of unfoldment?
